One of the main takeaways from this assignment was that there is an educational trifecta that incorporates historical, philosophical and sociological foundations. First, historical perspectives aim to mitigate presentism and foster critical historical thinking. Second, education through a philosophical lens allows educators to examine virtues of teachings and assumptions about education and evaluate them critically. Lastly, examining education through a sociological lens promotes analysis of schools as structures that reproduce sociological norms, and allows educators to parse the intended and unintended functions (and/or harms) of education.
