Working for the TNRD library system gave me valuable experience in literacy education and program facilitation. I led and supported literacy programs designed to engage children in reading comprehension, creative storytelling, and group learning. Some of these programs included daycare deliveries, where I would curate a themed collection of books and then deliver an interactive story time to daycare’s across the city. This position deepened my understanding of how to promote literacy through both structured and play-based approaches. Additionally, I gained an appreciation for library systems in general by seeing first-hand how many services they provide to the community at no cost. Libraries are truly a community-centred institution that aims to uplift, educate and support folks from all walks of life.
