Art is more than a form of self-expression: it’s a way of thinking. Creativity encourages problem-solving, experimentation, and the ability to see the world from different perspectives. As an artist, I strive to bring this same mindset into my teaching. By fostering creative expression in the classroom, I aim to help students develop both their imaginative and critical thinking skills—skills that are essential for learning and for life. Additionally, art supports diverse learners kinetically, visually and creatively which creates opportunities for UDL integration.
Below are several images of samples of my own artwork (very diverse in medium, technique and style). From left to right – hapa zome (Japanese printing using leaves), sculpture, American traditional tattoo, digital self-portrait, and digital art.
Art allows me to make sense of the world around me. I hope that sense of creative exploration is something I can instil in my students.
