KVA Convenor

As a KVA recreational volleyball convenor, I gained experience in leadership, organisation, and community building which are skills that directly relate to teaching. Coordinating games, managing schedules, and ensuring fair play requires clear communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution and the ability to foster collaboration among a diverse set of players. Additionally, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship helped me develop strategies for encouraging cooperation and positive group dynamics. My experience in sport has shaped a great deal of my attitudes towards teaching, learning and classroom management (as noted in my bio). Sport requires synergistic cooperation which builds a strong sense of community. I have – by managing a number of volleyball teams – developed techniques, activities and team-building exercises that are transferable to the classroom. A classroom is not unlike a sport team, and when students learn to work collectively and collaboratively, learning prospers.
